Syllables in Kindergarten

Breaking words into syllables – or chunks – is an important component of Phonological Awareness. Having a strong foundation in syllables is an important beginning step in learning to read and write. This skill will help children decode words and read more fluently.

I designed these clip cards so children can independently practice counting syllables. It also allows me to informally assess their skills! I like using the clothespins with this activity to encourage fine motor development, however, you can use any game marker you have to cover the numbers!

Fall Syllables includes 60 cards for Back to School, Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Winter Syllables includes 60 cards for Winter, Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day and Dental Health.
